Lorenzo, oil paint
I created this piece during a figure painting class I took in Florence, Italy. I used this exercise to explore the techniques of painting flesh. As you can begin to tell from the progress picture below, I approached Lorenzo's skin tones in a unique way. I applied blotches of color throughout his face wherever I could find them, and then once I had all of the colors down I blended them softly together to create the base layer of his skin. I played with texture in his shirt by applying the paint with my palette knife.
